Sonic Speedway opener cancelled

SATURDAY night’s season opener at the Sonic Speedway has been cancelled, with the club citing low nominations as the reason.

The Swan Hill Speedway made the announcement via their social media platforms, with the statement also citing “several recent withdrawals” as a key factor in the decision.

“This decision was not made lightly and we deeply apologise to all drivers and supporters who had nominated and were ready to travel for the event,” the statement read.

“We understand how disappointing this is, especially for spectators and those who had already committed to being part of what we hoped would be an exciting season opener.

“Please know that your support means a lot to the club and we look forward to our next race meeting being a great success on Saturday, December 28.”

The club did have 16 Wingless Sprints nominate for Saturday evening, but it was a lack of support classes that brought about the cancellation.

The Wingless Sprints will return in April as part of their Super Series Round, with the opening event of their season now moving to Saturday, December 28, with the return of AMCA Nationals and the Glare Memorial.

The other events on the Swan Hill Speedway calendar include the V8 trucks and a series round of GOSA Sedans on Saturday, February 8, the Victorian State Title for Standard Saloons as well as the SDAV Hot Rods Jordy Davis Memorial on March 8 and 9 and series rounds of Wingless Sprints as well as Sport Sedans on Saturday, April 26.

Saturday, May 17, will feature series rounds of JSPA Juniors and Street Stocks Mallee Masters round, with the club’s season concluding over the King’s Birthday long weekend with the finals of the Super Rods Series, with each meeting to feature a variety of support classes including Standard Sedans, Juniors, Formula 500s, Modified Production and Compact Speedcars.
